The Difference Between Girls and Boys in the Oedipus...

The article â€Å"Some Psychological Consequences of the Anatomical Distinction between the Sexes† by Sigmund Freud focus on the difference between boys and girls and the consequences and impact the Oedipus complex and Penis envy. Freud studies the consequences and how boy and girls develop and move forward from this phase. It is to say that Freud has a strong point of view about this, and somehow this theory can come as masochism and has been criticizes by many feminist; but I cannot ignore the complexity and how his ideas are proper. But can we used this theories to understand the modernity if the society we live in. The Oedipus complex came to my knowledge in my first semester of college, during my English class as we study Greek†¦show more content†¦So can we attribute this as the reason boys and girls reject each other in a sense when their children; things like when boys say girls have â€Å"cuties†. Freud analysis on Oedipus complex and penis envy goes even farther and even attributes some psychological â€Å"traumas† boy and girls can experience when they grow up it they didn’t usefully left the phase of Oedipus complex and penis envy successful. But is it really that serious? Are those psychological consequences only attribute to this? When analyzing this piece, can we still apply it to modern families? A family in where the boy is raise by two mothers, or two fathers and vice versa with girls. Does the Oedipus complex and penis envy take place even when the object of desire is no longer there? If a boy is raise by two fathers is there any complex at all? Maybe it could develop because of society, but does this have a different impact? I question it because this model of complex works perfectly if we have a family in where we have a father and a mother, but not all families are like that. Does this creates bigger psychological consequences and prevents children from leaving this phase successfully? In conclusion, t he analysis and understanding of the Oedipus complex and penis envy comes, when one tries to divide our cultural influence from what we are learning.
